Looking for Lilith Theatre Company opens it's 2012-13 Season with William Shakespeare's

Much Ado About Nothing

An all-female production of Much Ado About Nothing kicks off Looking for Lilith's 2012-2013 season. Switching the Shakespearean convention of one gender casting, LFL has cast only women in this perennial comedy favorite. Says Artistic Director Shannon Woolley Allison, “since we performed an evening of scenes of Shakespeare’s women characters, we’ve been eager to undertake a full production and we’re excited to explore the conventions of what it is to be men and women according to ‘society’ in this smart comedy”.

Director Kathi E.B. Ellis is enthusiastic about how the mission of LFL is served by producing Much Ado About Nothing.  “Much of the banter between Beatrice and Benedick revolves around not only their wit but also society’s expectations of what the roles of men and women should be,” she says. “This dynamic also includes the more conventional relationship between Hero and Claudio – and how that destructs when male-female expectations are abrogated (albeit through trickery).” LFL sets this interpretation in the fast-changing world of post World War I: pilots returning home, women's suffrage in the air, and the spread of popular music and movies altering people's idea of how life and love are conducted. By casting Much Ado About Nothing as an all-female production, LFL will explore how the text’s gender references are brought into relief, continuing the company’s commitment to examine classic texts from a feminist point of view.

gNEW EDUCATIONAL THEATRE PROGRAM DEFEATS SCHOOL BULLIES WITH SUPERHEROES

What’s faster than a speeding insult? More powerful than nasty rumors? Able to defeat school bullies in a single bound?
It’s Be the Hero, a live, dramatic bullying prevention program for schools! Throughout the school year, costumed superheroes will visit K-6 students across the region with a message about bullying. They’ll challenge kids to become real-life heroes by protecting their school from meanies. Be the Hero has already scheduled fifteen performances for approximately 4000 students in Kentucky and Indiana schools.
As the performance begins, it’s a big day for aspiring young superhero “Water Boy.” The principal of Hero Academy is going to interview him and find out if he’s ready to be super. But Water Boy doesn’t realize that the principal is actually his arch-enemy, a Superbully, in disguise. Will Water Boy fall into the villain’s trap and become a Superbully himself? Or will he learn to follow his conscience, and rescue his friend Donna from bad guys? As Water Boy discovers ways to stop bullies, students learn alongside him through this action-packed, 60-minute dramatic program.
Be the Hero is produced in Louisville by Drama by George, an educational theatre producer that has served thousands of students with high-quality, innovative programming. The production features local artist-educators Ollie Ballew, George Halitzka, and Ed Rosenberg. To hold the interest of today’s media-savvy generation, the production includes not only costumed superheroes, but also live special effects, professionally-produced video clips, and student volunteers from the audience who participate in the onstage action.
